Having been a teacher for the past 17 years, I have found that making a connection with my students is one of the most important phases of the beginning of each year. I start off the year trying to create a welcome back bulletin board that will catch the interest of the students and draw them in.
I have had several very successful boards over the past few years. These include: a "Schoolbook" knock off of facebook, a board that incorporated the alien toys from Toy Story, and a wordsearch for the names of the students in my class.
I have also made some intriguing boards for the "Read Across America" week celebration that our school embraces. These are based on Dr. Suess books. We have done hall decorations for the "500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins," "Mr. Brown Can, Moo Can You?", "The Lorax,' and an alphabet reminiscent of Dr. Suess's ABC. The quest each year to make colorful, interesting, and creative bulletin boards is the goal of teachers everywhere. I thought it would help to share some ideas with others.
